LEAKEY, TEXAS, December 19, 2018 — The Real County Community Initiative (RCCI), in partnership with Community Health Development, Inc. (CHDI), Methodist Healthcare Ministries’ Wesley Nurse program and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, is forming a healthcare collaborative named Team Real County.

In the fall of 2017, a group of more than twenty healthcare providers and recipients, elected officials, faith leaders, and other Real County community partners met at Laity Lodge, the H. E. Butt Foundation retreat center near Leakey, to ask the question, “What is the health of Real County?”

They discussed statistics, including some underreported statistics for Real County, and identified several health priorities in the county, including mental and behavioral health, healthcare education, and healthy children and families. After much discussion, they decided to create a communication team similar to one that exists in Uvalde County called Team Uvalde. Thus, Team Real County was born.

Amelia Nava of Hill Country Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities describes the group as “people coming together from different communities working towards making an impact and needed changes for our communities. We are giving our input, brainstorming and assessing the needs of our communities.”

Rachel A. Gonzales-Hanson, CEO of CHDI, recognizes the work the group has done as making “significant progress in cultivating relationships among its members, bitcoin address with custom prefix assessing some of the needs of the community and initial steps to move forward in a more cohesive manner. We are excited as we move forward together to improve the health status of Real County.”

Team Real County is putting together a listserv to include any service provider and/or leader providing any type of service in Real County. The listserv will notify community support services of needs in the community and new services being offered.

If you or any providers you know would like to be included in the listserv, please send your name and email address to lsalazar@hebfdn.org, or call Lupe Salazar at 830-291-8734.
