It was one of those days … one of those weeks … one of those months! Shelly would have bet money it would turn out to be one of those years. The markets were a roller coaster. Consumers skittish. Sales erratic. There was no figuring it out, Shelly reasoned.

Fortunately, Shelly had an experienced mentor named Jim, who’d seen it all before. He told her: “When everything around you is changing, focus on what doesn’t change.”

This is Howard Butt Jr. of Laity Lodge. Proverbs tells us to trust God, acknowledge him, and he will direct our path. God alone is true north. When the path changes, look up to fix on what never changes … in the high calling of our daily work.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”— Proverbs 3:5-6
