TRANSCRIPT:

Lyle Lovett is a Texas A&M graduate—from Klein, Texas—whose highly original blues/country/jazz/gospel music is known worldwide. Texas Monthly editor Evan Smith observes that Lovett’s “Large Band” is the very model of collaboration.

Lyle Lovett agrees. He said, “It’s immensely gratifying to work with people trying to do their best toward a common end. Whether it’s an arrangement or the performance of a single song, I just love the feeling of watching three or four or sixteen people all working together.”

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. If you want proof of the power of collaboration, listen to the convincing evidence of music. To do our best with others is to find the best in ourselves—in the high calling of our daily work.

It is good to praise the LORD
and make music to your name, O Most High,
to proclaim your love in the morning
and your faithfulness at night,
to the music of the ten-stringed lyre
and the melody of the harp.

(Ps. 92:1-3)
