At age 17, high school soccer star Amy Caldwell was her state’s player of the year. In fact, she led her high school team to the finals of its state tournament. But suddenly, Amy faced a tough decision. She could stay home to play for a state high school championship or leave to play for the under-16 national team.

Her choice: leave her teammates before their biggest game … or miss a chance to play on a national stage.

This is Howard Butt Jr. of Laity Lodge. Amy stayed with her high school team and in overtime kicked the winning goal. But the victory came when she chose loyalty to her schoolmates over the national limelight. Loyalty to our commitments is essential … in the high calling of our daily work.

“I am making this covenant, with its oath, not only with you who are standing here with us today in the presence of the LORD our God but also with those who are not here today.”
Deuteronomy 29:14-15
