Years ago at a university lecture, television legend Charles Kuralt ended his speech with a question and answer session. An insolent college student stepped up to a microphone and assaulted Kuralt with these words, “We learn about war on the evening news. Our music is MTV. We know about life from what you put on our televisions. Look how you’ve taught us!”
Kuralt gave a wonderful reply. He chuckled and said, “Don’t tell my bosses I told you this, son, but you can turn that thing off once in a while.”
This is Howard Butt Jr., of Laity Lodge. Televisions and computers cease to be useful tools when we cease to use our heads about them. Remember that every good thing still requires good judgment—in the high calling of our daily work.
In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.
