In 1973, Neal Jeffrey was the Baylor quarterback. The epitome of that season came in the TCU game. Trailing 34 to 7, Jeffrey rallied his team to within six points. The Bears had one play remaining, with the ball on the six yard line. Thinking he had two downs left, Neal threw the ball out of bounds—wrong move—TCU ball. Game over. Jeffrey was devastated. His coach, Grant Teaff, stayed confident in his quarterback. He told him so after the game.
Armed with encouragement from his coach, the next year Jeffrey turned his 2 and 9 team into Conference champions. Good coaching encourages others to achieve their best.
